"To be strengthened with his might, is to be mightily strengthened"- M.Henry.
Sounds like an obvious quote right? Like duh, 1+1=2!
As you can see I got the quote from Matthew Henry and his commentary on Ephesians.
That quote does seem a little odd in that it is such an obvious statement. But when I applied it to what I learned in Ephesians 3 today, it's not so ordinary.
First off I am just in a complete movement and attitude of praise today after having the opportunity to read Eph.3....God's word is so perfectly constructed in all aspects that I am just in awe and just thankful and in an attitude of praise to Him.
But okay , so I read this scripture and was just so in love, because I literally felt like I was reading a love letter from God (even though Paul wrote it lol). And if you only knew what my prayer was before I turned to this scripture....Oh boy! God was so on point! So of course a specific verse of the whole Ephesians 3 stuck out to me and I am still trying to digest it all!
KJV-Eph 3:16 "That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with his might by his spirit in the inner man."
NLT- Eph 3:16 "I pray that from is glorious unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit."
So this is Paul talking to the Ephesians about what he is going to pray about for them. Simple. Just simple prayers...yeah....NO!
To me this is just heart stopping lol! Well more of just a really good crazy word from the Lord.
All of the things Paul planned on praying for were spiritual, which I love and think is so cool.
When I was reading Mr.Henry's commentary He points out that what Paul is doing is just right!
"Spiritual blessings, which are the best blessings, and the most earnestly sought and prayed for..."
When I think about it, he is sooooo right! Our spirit needs to be fed! Our spirits need prayer! I can not tell you how many times a day I pray for "blessings Lord on their life", even when I end my blogs "God bless y'all", I'll say! NOT EVEN NOTICING, or caring to notice that, those prayers and words can be so empty if they are not specific. Blessings? God bless you!?
How about Spiritual Blessings! & God bless you! (Spiritually lol)
I don't know, but this just changed my perspective, instead of praying for someone to have a blessing, which would be something that can DIE off and FADE away, I need to be praying directly for their spirit. For blessings on their spirit!
So then, I'm just gonna call him Henry, talked about the very first quote I quoted up there.
"To be strengthened with his might is to be mightily strengthened"
In both versions of Eph.3:16, they reference Gods 'mighty inner strength' or 'strengthen by his might'. They didn't reference it for no reason either! The Ephesians had been strengthen by God before, just like we have. We've been through times were God has come through and provided us with strength to get by...
But this is MUCH MORE than what the Ephesians had ever had before, from what I've ever had before. This time the strength is for spiritual abilities...
When God is giving us this mighty strength, it's going to the inner man... the spirit!! Ahhhh! How awesome! How undeserving we are! God is going to MIGHTILY strengthen our inner men, our spirits! This is just what I need! Strength that goes beyond physicality. Physical strength does no good when we die, physical strength does no good in a spiritual battle!
Henry stated, "Strength from the spirit of God in the inner man is the most desirable".
If that isn't true, I surely do not know what is...
This should be my most desirable strength! Point blank period! I don't have any more to say than just that!
I pray the Lord to give me this desire! To awaken this in me, which I sort of feel he already has. That desire for more, when you're spiritually weak, and lost, to have that strength. I think that's what Henry means when he says it is the most desirable. Not that we should desire this strength more...but that in our fleshy, worldly selves...as our hearts yearn for God and our spirits call to him, we end up desiring the strength of our Lord to push through with his spirit in our inner man!
My last point... In the verse it says "according to the riches of his glory" or "from his unlimited glorious resources"...
This just makes me think of how rich our God is! He is rich!! Right?! Obviously, the Lord is rich. In his character, his holiness, his grace, mercy and power! He is abundant in these things!
The strength we need, and that we are receiving for our spirits, and spiritual abilities is SPECIFICALLY from the richest aspects of God. It is from his glorious riches that we are able to be mightily strengthened... Just let that sink in for a bit.
That's all folks! I was so blessed by this word today, I had to share it!
P.S.- Sorry if the song on my page played twice and overlapped each other -.- ,stuff got messed up but hopefully it's fixed now!
May God SPIRITUALLY bless y'all! :D
